Berkshire and Mid Thames

Members: 156

We welcome you to our Group page which will give you more information about us and how we can be contacted.  We welcome everyone who enjoys walking irrespective of their gender, age, or ability.  129 members of the GOC are registered as members of our Group. Normally we have a core group of walkers consisting of 12 or so people. We are keen to broaden our appeal and very much hope we can attract both women members and also those from the LGBTQ+ and BAME communities.

Wherever you live you will always receive a warm welcome from us. You do not have to be resident in our area and we hope you will come and visit us.

We meet on the Third Sunday of every month from January to April and October until December and on the first Saturday of each month late afternoon/evenings from May until September. Details of walks can be found if you click on the events button above. We are also currently looking at an option of holding a mid week walk. Our Sunday walks are usually around 7 to 8 miles long while the Saturday walks tend to be shorter normally about 5 miles.

Our Sunday walks usually start at 10.30am and the evening walks at 5pm.

If you do not have your own transport we will always see if one of our members may be able to give you a lift to a walk if you can arrange to get to one of a number of GWR stations in the Berkshire/South Oxfordshire area.

We also co-ordinate our walks with the Oxford group and often either share walks with them or some of their members often lead our walks. Details about their group, including times when they walk can be found under the Oxford Group heading.

Our walks are primarily spread across West and Mid Berkshire as well as South Oxfordshire. This gives us a range of beautiful walks ranging from Beech and Oak Woodlands as well as the Ridgeway and the Berkshire Downs. In summer we often walk beside the Thames. Most of our walks are either easy or moderate. Occasionally we encounter some steep hills but in the main it is not difficult walking country. In the summer ordinary walking shoes are usually fine. At other times of the year footpaths are often muddy and walking boots are preferable.

After our walks we like to have a social get together and have a meal and drink in a local pub of which there are many in our area.

Dogs are most welcome to join us.

If you are interested in joining us please either register your name for one of our walks on the events page or if you need more information please use the contact form at the foot of this page. The joint coordinators of our Group are Simon Scaddan Mobile 07854 743 829 and Vasile Caramb Mobile 07805 378 986
