This walk is approximately 9 miles long and goes from  Billingshurst rail station to Pulborough rail station. Most of the route is close to the River Arun and the disused Wey and Arun Canal. On the walk we'll see some of the canal’s old structures, including Lordings Lock and Waterwheel. The walking route generally follows the river and old canal before climbing to emerge to views of the South Downs.

In most parts it is relatively flat with just a few inclines along the way. Some sections of path are quite narrow and some of the riverside paths and woodland bridleways can get muddy at times. There are several gates, kissing gates, footbridges, steps and 12 stiles (all of which have purpose-built dog gates or open fencing alongside, meaning that most dogs will pass through easily). There is limited walking along small country lanes.

Most of the route forms part of the Sussex Hospices Trail, a 200 mile long-distance path to support and raise awareness of the twelve hospice care providers that serve the adults and children of Sussex.

Please bring drinks and a packed lunch for yourself. Wear clothes appropriate for the weather and terrain, including decent walking shoes if possible. Dogs are welcome if kept on leads whenever appropriate or requested by the walk leader.
