This is a 7 mile moderate walk, walking in the footsteps of the Miners who walked to work up the Twrch valley.

Cwmtwrch is at the northern edge of the South Wales coalfield and here, the raw materials which drove the Industrial Revolution were to be found: trees for charcoal, silica for firebricks, lime for iron smelting, iron ore and above all, anthracite coal. The valley once echoed with the sounds of heavy industry but now nature has reclaimed the land.

We will start on a woodland path down to the centre of Cwmtwrch and then beside the River Twrch and up onto open ground with fantastic views all around the surrounding area.

We will then join the Miners' path glimpsing relics of the industrial past up to their former place of work, where we will be amazed by a huge immaculate chimney and lime kilns.

We complete the journey through fields and greenery back to the start.

This is a beautiful walk in a little known area.

There are some ups and downs but nothing significant.

The paths could be muddy depending on recent weather.
