Simon’s Seat, Barden Fell and including the Valley of Desolation, this is a Yorkshire Dales walk of contrasts and includes moorland, two rocky summits, woodland and beautiful riverside paths.

A fairly tough ascent up to the top though on good paths with fantastic views towards Grassington. We have the option of also visiting the Lord's Seat, which lies about 500 metres east with views towards Nidderdale.

There is a steep and fast descent to the North and we end by following the Dalesway along the river Wharfe passing the Strid along the way.

Length 10-11 miles plus visit to the Lord's Seat. Ascent 1435 feet/435 metres.

Food & Drink: please bring a packed lunch and something to drink. After the walk we hope to take refreshment at a local pub or cafe.

Equipment:  walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm clothing. Trekking pole(s) recommended if normally used.
