A challenging 10.5 mile walk from Scar House Reservoir. Leaving the reservoir car park we will first climb Little Whernside, the highest point of our walk at 604m. This is listed as "one of the Highest Dales Hills, although it's like a lumpy old sponge on top!"

Our next section is a high level traverse across the Whernside Ridge to Dead Man's Hill and beyond to our final summit, Great Haw with fantastic views of Coverdale towards Middlesborough and our old favourite Drax to the east. Please note that as we cross the watershed the track almost disappears and the springy peat and heather underfoot is challenging. This is a moorland walk and you will get wet feet !!!

Finally we start our descent following York Dike with more fantastic views of Gouthwaite and further towards Menwith Hill. As we negotiate our way off the moor the track starts to drop quite steeply before we join the Nidderdale Way and return across the dam wall.

Total climbing is 475m (1558ft). We will have an early lunch on the top of Little Whernside and a couple or further coffee stops to catch our breath.

Equipment: walking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm clothing. Trekking pole(s) recommended if normally used.

Please arrive by 10.15am latest so we can organise ourselves and leave at 10.30am prompt. I'll be there from 10.

Kindly note that dogs are not allowed on this walk.
