Sat 1. Chipping Norton & the Rollright Stones.
No trip to the North Cotswolds would be complete without a visit to Chipping Norton and the Rollright Stones.
Rolling Cotswold hills, field paths and bridleways, are all part of this 9 mile ramble in the North Cotswolds hills, along with visits to the local villages of Salford and Little Rollright.
As you would expect, we will also be stopping to investigate the megalithic ring of the Rollright Stones, believed to have been erected in the Late Neolithic period around 3000BC. Much folklore and legend is attached to the stones, if you are quiet, you may be lucky enough to spot the fairies that live in caves under the outlying stones, but count the stones as many times as you wish, you will never get the same answer!
Current entrance fee to the stones is £1.
