  • Approx Distance 9 Miles
  • TerrainSome pavements in town, a short section of road walking, mostly good paths but some parts have stones and tree roots to navigate. 1294 ft ascent.

On this walk we will get a glimpse of the ruins of Hailes Abbey and view the 13th c wall paintings in the parish church, where a gravestone has a horrific tale to tell. We will visit Cromwells seat and later get distant views of the Malvern Hills and Stanway House with its impressive avenue of trees.

There is a long steady climb up the Cotswold Way and near Cromwells Seat it is steep and uneven.  Most of the walk is on good paths across open fields and through woodland, which can be muddy!

We will have lunch by a small herb farm which usually sells local ice creams, if you fancy an after lunch dessert.  We will retain the ecclesiastical theme as we return via Strip Lynchets, Monks Hole and Flukes Hill, returning to the start on the Gloucestershire Way.

Please dress for the weather and bring plenty of fluids, there are no shops or toilets on route. Dogs must be on a lead when livestock present.

Options for post walk refreshments in Winchcombe.
