GOC 50th Anniversary walk and Celebratory Picnic at Berkshire’s Highest point on the longest day of the Year.
Come and join us to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Gay Outdoor Club (GOC), a national organisation founded in 1974 and which originally focussed primarily on camping and walking but has over the years evolved into the lively and exciting organisation it is today. Welcome to all from the LGBTQ+ community. The GOC focusses on a wide variety of outdoor activities including, walking, cycling, gardens, history and culture and events abroad. See link https://www.goc.org.uk/
Our celebratory walk will take place in West Berkshire at its highest point - 974 ft on the longest day of the year. We will stroll along Wayfarers Way, part of the Test Way Walk along the spine of Walbury hill passing Gallows Down the site of a Gibbet originally constructed in 1676 which was used to display the bodies of two local criminals. It has never been used since.
Our walk continues around and down Walbury Hill passing through the small hamlet of Combe and then a longish uphill climb back up the hill to our starting point where we will have our celebratory picnic.
