An Easy walk of 7 miles over Cockfield Fell a 350 hectare Scheduled ancient monument passing the remains of the 1863 Gaunless Viaduct designed by Thomas Bouch. We can view the beehive coking ovens and also the end of the Haggerleases line. Through fields and lanes to the site of the Copley Smelt mill and its chimney built in 1832. We will return partly by the disused Bishop Auckland to Barnard Castle railway line. A mixture of open fell, fields, quiet lanes and disused railway tracks.
This walk is lead by Martin and David.
