This walk straddles the Co Durham/Northumberland border in an area which is often overlooked for it's natural beauty.

We start at Allensford in Co Durham but immediately cross the bridge over the River Derwent to enter Northumberland. A short section of road walking on the busy A68 takes us to the grounds of the Derwent Manor hotel. From here we walk through fields and cross the A68 at Mosswood. There is then a section of walking on a very minor surfaced road to Wallish Walls and Crooked Oak. We then join tracks and walk above the deep Derwent Gorge before descending and crossing a footbridge back into Co Durham. We then climb out of the gorge into Muggleswick woods and continue to climb until we reach fields and path's to Healeyfield Lane which we follow for a little under half a mile, this can be a busy minor road so single file walking on the verge will be required. At the highest point of the walk we again take to field paths then back into woodland atop cliffs above the Derwent before descending to the river banks and a gentle walk back to our start point.
