Coronavirus / Covid-19
Following recent changes in government advice regarding Covid-19 to avoid all non-essential travel and maintain social distancing, all walks and other activities are cancelled until further notice.
We will continue to review the situation in line with guidance issued by the government. Further information can be found here, and will be udpated in due course.
Twenty years ago, the newly formed South Wales GOC Group tentatively stepped out on their first walk - to climb Sugar Loaf hill, which dominates the Abergavenny skyline - and to mark the occasion, Peter, the original walk leader, will lead an 8 mile walk to the summit, which is just under 2,000 feet high. Ascending around 1,700 feet, the walk scenery includes open moorland with extensive views and sheltered wooded valleys, and the terrain is tracks and good paths that may be muddy in places. Waterproofs, warm clothing, and suitable footwear essential.
Please bring a packed lunch and a suitable supply of fluids - remember it will be cold this time of year.
Celebratory refreshments will be supplied by the walk leader, Peter.
Terrain / Difficulty
Moderate with a steady climb to the summit
