Leigh Woods evening walk 21 July 2016

We met up as a soft, gentle summer rain fell, which cleared soon after we set off, leaving the air clear and the vegetation lush.  Heading across the Ashton Court Estate, where the recently cut long grass was being gathered and baled, we followed paths through fields and woodland to reach Abbots Pool, its tranquil surface looking mysterious in the evening light.

The walk took us on to Abbots Leigh village, where we saw grand houses and more modest cottages with their pretty gardens, along with views over the Severn Estuary towards the Welsh mountains.  On our return,  a herd of very lively, horned cattle were reluctant to let us pass, but a short diversion took us round the field to rejoin the path.  We completed the walk passing through Leigh Woods in the twilight, and arrived back at the starting point just before 9.30pm.  Thanks to those who came along on the walk and for being such good company.

Many thanks to John & Martin for both walk and report.
