Exploring the waterways of Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire

Although still within the M25, the train journey to Rickmansworth made you feel distinctly "country" as sprawling London suburbs were quite suddenly replaced by forests, rivers, farms and tiny villages.  Steve Forde made 31 of us feel even more rural as we explored the lush forested waterways for which the area is famous for. There were a couple of minor hiccoughs as the path was barricaded in one place, and a detour had to be detoured further, but we all took it in our stride and Steve capably led us past 7-8 miles of the River Colne, its tributaries and lakes, and in and out of parts of the Great Union Canal. Instead of our usual packed lunch we were treated to a pub meal at the delightful Coy Carp Pub, enjoying their gardens in the sunshine, and being attacked by the resident ducks demanding nibbles. There were quite a few new GOC Members and Guests, including a very welcomed woman, Nat, and all seemed to enjoy the day. There was the usual GOC chat and banter (fortunately the more senior ones amongst us only briefly bored the others over the differences and benefits of the Freedom Pass versus the Boris (possibly soon to be shortlived) Over 60's card!), and this continued around drinks at the local Wetherspoons.

Thanks Steve for a great day!

Pics speak a thousand words, and thanks to John Hughes for many of these:
