Bracklesham Bay Coastal Realignment, 18 January 2015

Ten bravely assembled in the car park on a cold and grey Sunday, 18 January, for our first walk of 2015.

The flood waters from the recent rainfall had receded so the first part of the walk was across clay, puddled fields rather than a boating expedition and upon rejoining the lanes it was a relief that they were back to solid ground and not free flowing streams! The sunshine helped relieve the chill of the wind as we headed down the coast through the hamlet of Ham and our lunch spot was the Ham Viewpoint.  This looks left to Selsey Bill and out to the Isle of Wight and then right is a view of Portsmouth, all in a winter sun haze.

The Medmerry project is now managed by the RSPB but at this time of year there is very little wildlife to watch, in fact, without the Summer guests Bracklesham is a very empty, bleak place and we had the whole of the beach to ourselves as we walked back in the afternoon.

Once back at the Cafe and Lifeboat station we headed back up to the car park and home. All agreed it was a very relaxing and nice way to start our New Year walks.
