Bears in the woods, Bluebells, a bit of Napoleon, wall to wall sunshine…….can only be SE London in April!

Sunday the 13th of  April saw 35 of us and one dog, enjoying a warm, stunningly sunny Spring day exploring the many parks this part of SE London has tucked away. Led by Darrell Murphy on his first lead, and using parts of the Green Chain Walk of this region, we started from Chislehurst, and took on some of the few remaining ancient woods left in inner London, including Elmstead Wood and Beckenham Place Park, as well as other parks.  Along the way we were treated to vast swathes of Bluebells, Wild Garlic and Spring Anemones, and the biggest surprise was discovering a secret bear's stronghold deep in the woods (pics reveal all)!  The sunshine fuelled lots of lively chat throughout the day, and continued with a core group of diehards lubricating themselves at the Baring Hall Hotel in Grove Park, harbouring its own interesting story - the place was attempted to be burnt down by a disgruntled customer, closed for 4 years, and destined to be luxury apartments and a Tesco Express until local residents rose to save it, only recently opened, the scars of the fire evident all around!

The pictures reveal what a great day it was!

Thank you Darrell!!
