9 Miles Through The North Downs

<2>9 Miles Through The North Downs

The 23 Mar 2014 saw the Surrey and London groups head out for a 9 mile walk together through the North Downs expertly led by Peter. There were 62 walkers made up of Surrey regulars, some Surrey walkers who had come out of their winter hibernation, an equivalent number of London totty and at least 5 new bugs came to try GOC for the very first time.

The original event information can be seen by following this event details link

I was pleased to see everyone mingling on the walk proving GOC members are the friendliest walkers around. Gordon showed off his botanical knowledge and pointed out for us several clumps of Ivy broomrape - Orobanche hederae, a parasitic plant without chlorophyll. Update 3Apr14 - Roy Vickery thinks this may be toothwort, Lathraea squamaria.

Big shout out to Peter for leading the walk, everyone who contributed photos and all of you who baked and bought goodies for having with our tea.
