| Annual Outdoor Gathering in Bangor, North Wales | Posted: 5 February 2009 |

The North Wales group invite GOC members to join us in Bangor for the 2009 Annual Outdoor Gathering from the 24th to the 26th July 2009.
Undoubtedly we in North Wales are lucky to have such a stunning locality for our outdoor activities, and we are eager to show off our backyard and share the delights our location enables.
Bangor, lying on the Menai Straits, with its two picturesque bridges over to Anglesey and sitting just below the mighty Snowdonian mountains, is the base for this year’s AOG. Despite being one of the UK’s smallest cities, the long established university means it is full of life and vibrancy, with a huge range of restaurants, pubs, shops and even it’s own thriving gay bar. But the best part of Bangor is what lies just outside: the mountains, the lakes and coasts.
Accommodation will primarily be based at the new University halls, completed just last year, and only a short walk from the city centre and railway station. With all mod cons, en suite rooms, bars and catering onsite, staying here will be a very comfortable experience. But being a tourist honey pot there is nearby every style of lodging, from campsites to country house hotels.
The weekend’s activities will cover all abilities and interests. If you like it steep we have it steep, if you like it flat we have it flat, and it you like it deep and dirty, we have that too. There will be walks along Anglesey’s rugged coastline, hikes to the top of mountains (including Snowdon the highest peak in England and Wales), scrambling ridges, mini bus tours to nearby historic sites (castles!), and if you want to try something new and different, the chance to abseil down sheer cliff faces or to explore underground with a tour of ancient copper mines.
After putting away the boots, and watching the sunset slip towards the Irish Sea, get ready for some Welsh hospitality. The highlight of which will be the Annual Dinner to be held under the Victorian vaulted ceiling of the University’s main hall on the Saturday night. After the courses are served a traditional Welsh twmpath band will get your feet tapping.
Further information is at events/details/aog2009.
We look forward to welcoming you to this our stunning backyard.
